3 Tips to Quell Anxiety Before I get to the 3 tips, I'd like to explain a little about what anxiety is. This may be a little different than the way you may have previously thought of anxiety. Anxiety is mostly the feeling that you have too much to do on your own or that you don't have control over a situation. This may take a variety of specific nuances depending on your situation. However, when you boil it down, these 2 things both come down to control. This doesn't necessarily mean that you are a control freak. What it means is that you don't FEEL like you have support. Here are a few steps to address and quell anxiety. 1. You ARE supported The first thing to quelling anxiety is to realize you do have support. You are being divinely supported at every moment. We kinda know this, but the issue with anxiety is that you don't FEEL it. As in, your body doesn't feel it because other parts of your system have told it that it has to do everything or it's not in control. Adjusting mindset can help you to realize what is most important and scaling back on your tasks. This can be a good start. However, there is an underlying reason your system set up your life this way to begin with. Getting to the bottom of what your system is set up to do and adjusting it on an energetic level can make real difference in making mindset shifts stick. If you are concerned about health/harm/death it would be a wonderful idea to begin to explore the soul path of a person to gather more understanding to help ease your conscious mind. However, again, this is mindset work. Mindset work is great, but without adjusting the reason that you have this feeling energetically, the mindset work may take a while to fully integrate into your body. So, while you are working on this point, the next two points are techniques that you can use in the moment or to use as a practice to calm your anxiety. 2. Listen to relaxing music. Sound healing therapy is a REAL thing! I personally love it. I mean both listening to music and the actual therapy using sound. What happens is that your body is the most dense of your 4 bodies (physical, emotional, mental, spirit). Which means that it is thicker so, sound waves really get in there and can cause an immediate relaxation feeling. I like listening to music that reinforces point (1 above) for me. These types of songs allow me to remember that God is fully supporting me and have a soothing sound. Here are a few links to some of my favorites on YouTube: If you follow me then you know this is one of my FAVORITE bands ever. Ed Kowalczyk sings of existential topics. Live - Run to the water https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKpXi8etSAI Casting Crowns - Just be held **My personal number one choice when I'm stressed about something** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIZitK6_IMQ Kristian Stanfill - One thing remains https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_o6s5X5LSw David Crowder Band - How He loves us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgRLyGaMOd0 I understand that these are religious songs and you may not have the same views. I don't intend to push a religion. These songs refer to God supporting us and don't include doctrine, so I am personally ok with them. However I totally understand if you are not partial to them. You can select music that does cause you to relax and fall into a resting feeling in your body regardless of where you are. 3. Calming your body and mind Breathing is the most amazing technique! Years ago, I didn't understand why people raved about breathing exercises. It took me a while to find the techniques that work for me. But when I found it, I realized that breath actually expands the space in your body, energetically and physically. When your body is given a little more breathing room, it can calm a bit. Another way of getting your body and mind calm is moving your body. Dancing and yoga are both really amazing ways to move energy around your body and calm it. Your body tenses when you are in a state of anxiety. Adding breath and then moving your body around tells your body that you care about it and are working to calm it. It has the most amazing effect on shifting the feeling of anxiety! I once was in a place of anxiety on a daily basis that caused a lot of havoc in my body. I have used all of these techniques and developed a practice of them. Of course, once these practices are in place, it is easy to shift anxiety in a moment. The objective is not to eradicate anxiety from your system all together because it is a bodily response that can be beneficial at times. The objective is to understand why it is happening and not have it happen on a daily basis.
