Is OVERTHINKING illogical?
You are NOT Your Mind
Your mind is only a tool. Your mind is a PART of you. It helps to get you from point A to point B. However, in our society, we rely heavily on our mind. Our conscious mind, that is. When you look at the entirety of our body, the conscious mind is only a small percent. In fact, we give so much credit to our conscious mind that really belongs to other parts of our being. Our subconscious mind actually controls way more than our conscious mind. Our emotions have a very large roll as well. We also judge people harshly when they let their emotions slip out too much. Our conscious mind judges that too much emotion isn't appropriate as we have defined in our society. We give accolades to those that repress their emotion and seem fine after having undergone a serious situation. All of this conscious mind programming is seriously detrimental to our body. Then we wonder why our body comes down with a health issue. We are utterly perplexed because we haven't been listening to the MANY signals our subconscious mind has sent to us through our body.
We also think that we KNOW ourselves. It is true that during each phase of our life, we learn more about ourselves. We define ourselves, especially during the teenage years. However, as those who have explored themselves more deeply have found out, WE are so much more than we know! The information that is stored in our body systems are immense.
To retrieve this information from your body system, what you have to do is re-learn how to listen to your body. This happens by calming your thinking and feeling into your body. Then begin to notice where you are feeling sensations. This part of the process may take a little while of practicing, but we were all born with this ability, so it is possible. There are many tips and techniques available through a simple internet search that will be able to teach this process. The next step is to interpret the information that you are receiving. Since most of us weren't taught how to do this, it can seem like you aren't getting anything at first. Our conscious mind wants to hop in and tell us that this is ridiculous and there is no real information here. If you press through this part, you will soon find yourself gathering information from your body, mind, emotions and soul.
Techniques like meditation can help to get you in touch with your body's messages. Meditation is often misunderstood as the process of clearing your mind, which is why so many people find it difficult. There also many types of meditation. Trying a few is a good way to start to see which one you like better. At first, I rather enjoyed dancing around by myself to my favorite song. Another good one is coloring. The idea is to get your conscious mind to do ONLY one thing at a time.
Another way to get those messages from your body more quickly is working with an Energy Healer. I have spent a great amount of time learning how to read my own body's messages. I teach this process to others as well as read their body's messages for them. It is helpful to have someone to guide you along this process and to help you receive the messages that are specific to you. Only your body knows what is right for you.
It may seem that using your logical mind (conscious mind) to guide your life is the wise thing to do. This is what we are taught. However, thinking about something in order to "figure it out" generally has us thinking in circles. This is how we get stuck in ruts in our life with no real idea of how to get out of our situations. Being stuck in an unpleasant life situation can lead to imbalances elsewhere in your life and eventually, your body. So, what starts out as an imbalance in your mind becomes an imbalance throughout your life.
Yes, I said it. Relying to heavily on your conscious mind is a mental imbalance. I know this is a bold statement considering we call people who are "crazy" mentally imbalanced. But, really, using your conscious mind beyond what it was intended for is imbalanced. It's actually illogical. So, to summarize, being overly logical is illogical.
I know it can be scary to consider learning a new way of thinking. But is it better than overusing your conscious mind and having health and life issues because you can't figure them out? Our bodies are so intricate. There is so much information being passed between the parts of our body just for basic functioning. So, it is understandable that there must be a way for us to have this information that is taking place inside of us. Otherwise, it would be a system where the operator was kept out of the loop.
The purpose of this article was to present the concept that you can know what is going on in your body. I highly encourage you to start noticing those sensations that you were taught to stop noticing.
